My trajectory into film started in art school. It was in a short survey photography class where we were asked to compile a book of photographs. My book consisted mostly of photos and polaroids accompanied with painted drawings, collage and text to create a visual story. It was undoubtedly the most inspired work that I created.
Upon entering the serious study of film I started with experimental films. I enjoyed discovering ways to illicit feelings and discovering film’s relationship to painting. I became interested in realism and migrated towards documentary and narrative film-making styles. As my desire to become a filmmaker grew I became drawn to film studies. I wanted to understand how films had the power to kept us captive. What was this power? How could I get it? Watching great films often lead us to discover parts of ourselves (or of others) that we may not have been able to recognize otherwise, in turn changing the way we think and experience the world.
I studied Film and Video production at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and received a Masters in Film Studies at the University of Essex in England. I am an active filmmaker pursuing an academic career in Film Studies.
